Cubs 17, REBL Diamondbacks 5
Game 2: Cubs (17) vs. Diamondbacks (5)
The Diamondbacks had a severe arm shortage and were forced to field only eight halfway through the game as the Cubs sent Doug Zeman to the hill to make his first start of the year in the afternoon game. Despite being
relegated to the pen so far this year (a role he has thrived in), Zeman proved he is really a starter, throwing a complete game (seven innings
because of the mercy rule being enacted), giving up three earned runs and striking out seven.
The Cubs sticks continued to make noise all afternoon giving Zeman all the support he would need as every Cub got at least one hit, while seven of the Cubs 10 batters had multi-hit days. Third baseman Hamilton Arendsen had a great day both defensively and at the plate, going 3 for 5 with a double and three RBI. Catcher Lex Robins went 2 for 2 with a double and two base on balls and second baseman David Gonzalez broke out of a slump going 3 for 4 with a stolen base and two runs batted in.
The Cubs look to keep their bats hot in next weekend's series versus the
Giants at the windy dustbowl known as Mills Highschool.
