Javier Barazza took the hill for the Cub but had to leave after one inning due to tightness. With effectively all their starters either absent or injured, Matt Nelson climbed the mound for the Cubs in the second for the second weekend in a row and once again made his case for breaking into the rotation. Nelson went six innings to finish the shortened game (seven innings due to the 12 run mercy rule) giving up no runs, three hits, two walks, and striking out five to get the win - his second in as many chances.
Despite missing the heart of their line-up, the Cubs' sticks were alive and well today. John Brian had a stand-out day going 2 for 4 with two doubles, a run scored, and an RBI. Javier Barazza went 3 for 4 with two singles, and a double, three runs scored, and two RBI to help put the game in the bag for the Cubs.
