Brewers 15, Astros 4 July 12, 2003, 10:00 AM Game Recap
Brewers 15, Astros 4
The Brewers were nervous in the first game of their double-header versus the Astros, as their fearless leader, Joel "Grimace" Russell was out schlepping tobacco to high school kids (start-em young!). However, behind another stellar pitching performance by Aaron "Tex" Boynton, and a consistent hitting attack they were able to defeat the Astros 15-4.
The Brewers were able to put up at least one run in every frame of the 8 inning affair at a beautiful, and fogless, Skyline College. The Astros pitching staff helped the Brewers along with 9 BBs and 2 HBPs. But to be fair the Astro's staff was hurt by the fact that someone had apparently run over the home plate umpire's dog that morning, as 2 pitchers were tossed in consecutive innings, on what had to be the 2 quietest/questionable ejections in baseball history. The consensus on the Brewer's bench was, if you are going to get tossed throw a base, kick some dirt, drop some 4-letter words - get your money's worth (this league ain't cheap)!
The Brewers were led by Darren "Last Chance" Stowell's 2 hits including a triple and some generous score keeping - he also scored 3 runs. Joe "Clubhouse Cancer" Meyer was 2-5, with a double and 2 RBIs. Nick "??" Wilson continued to mash and was 2-5 with 4 RBIs. And "Uncle" Fred Nazzal proving yet again that he is being mis-used at the bottom of the order went 4-5, with a double, 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs.
Aaron "Tex" Boynton, continued his fine pitching of late with 8 IP, 8 hits, 2 ER, 2 BB, and 4Ks. Apparently Joel threatening to make him the permanent 3rd base coach had a positive effect.
