Brewers 8, at REBL Black Sox 2
A sluggish and over-served Brewers team took a while to get the bats going against a determined Black Sox squad in game one at Casa Grande. The name "Big House" was very fitting as it was Cool Hand Luke chain-gang hot all day long. Some timely hitting and another good pitching performance, however, saw the Brewers through to an 8-2 victory.
Offensively the Brewers were led by "Casual" Joe Meyer who was 1-3 with 2 RBIs, "Chunky" A. Lawlor who was 2-3, Matt "6 Advil" Frazier who was 2-4 with 2 RBIs, and Malcolm "Commisioner" Heinicke who was 2-4 with his first HR of the season (he still might be circling the bases). The big news, however, was the sight of Steve "Big Chief" Arviso making his first appearance of the year. In his first action in nearly 12 months and wearing a pair of gardening gloves he managed to go 2-3 while eating the entire value menu from Taco Bell between innnings. Nice to have you back.
And, as has been the case in recent weeks, the Brewers got another fine performance from their staff. Matt Frazier, a mere 12 hours after being attached by an 18-pack of Coors Light, went 8 strong innings, giving up 1 ER with 11 Ks. And Will "Wiffle Ball Bat" Ascuncion pitched the ninth giving up no hits, no runs with 2 Ks.
