Cubs 16, Astros 12 August 2, 2003, 2:00 PM Game Recap
Cubs 16, Astros 12
The afternoon game of the Astros/Cubs double-header was far from the crisp, quick, baseball played in the morning game. The Cubs scored three in the first and seven in the second to jump out to an early 10 - 0 lead. But the Astros came right back, plating 1 in the second, 5 in the third, and 3 in the 4th to cut the Cubs lead to 12-9. But the Cubs kept taking their hacks and dumping on the runs to finally put the game away at 16-12 after seven innings (the game was called due to the time three-hour time-limit).
Cubbie first Baseman, "Big Mike" Cazares emerged after a pro-longed absence and had himself a day going 2 for 4 with four RBI and a run scored, highlighted by a bases clearing double in the second. David Gonzalez stepped up on the hill for the second straight week and managed to quash a sixth-inning Astros rally and pitch a 1-2-3 seventh to secure a Cubs sweep.
